Hokkaidou Trip ’07

Part4

Aug. 6th (Mon.)

We got up at 6 o'clock. We ate breakfast and it was very crowded. The breakfast was a biking style. We were walking in a town. It was fresh and felt comfortable. We were wondering what we would do in the Rishiri Island. We didn't decide any schedule at all. Before leaving the hotel, we decided to rent a car. The hotel bus took us to the ferry terminal. In front of the ferry terminal, we found a rent-a-car office and then we asked the person to make a reservation. But he asked us to make a phone call individually, so I made a phone call to a rent-a-car office in Rishiri Island. It cost 12800 yen for every cost including insurance and gasoline fee.

We took the 9:55 o'clock ferry boat bound for Rishiri Island. It took only 35 minutes ride. It was not crowded and took a rest and took pictures. After getting off, we dropped in the rent-a-car office in front of the ferry terminal. As I answered my information, it took only less than 5 minutes to make a procedure. The car was Tiira made of Nissan's car. I received a map and began to drive. It was very easy to drive, because there was only one road which goes around the Island. The road goes along the seashore and enjoyed seeing the sea, but unfortunately we could not see the Mt.Rishiri. We passed the Pond Himenuma and had the first stop at Nozuka scenic point.

The weather was getting better and we could see better scenery of Mt.Rishiri.I stooped at the lake Oshidomari and then I could see Mt.Rishiri very well. It was a perfect view and the lake reflected Mt.Rishiri. I felt happy to see a nice view. We ordered salmon roe-don and three different sea foods don which means salmon roe, sea urchin and scallop. It tasted very good and enjoyed eating them outside the restaurant and seeing Mt.Rishiri. There was a trail around the lake.

After lunch, we left the lake Odatomari and dropped in the Minamihama Shitsugen. There was a trail around the pond. After that, we visited the seaside park and there were a lot of rocks in the Senposhi Ozaki Park and many sea urchin seen in the rock.

As I heard that the road for a car was available to the 5th level of Mt.Rishiri, we drove up there. There were few cars passed by and it was easy to drive. About 10 minutes drive brought us to the 5th level of the mountain, namely Mikaeri-dai Parking lot.

Then we walked to Mikaeri-dai Park and it took about 10 minutes. It was cloudy and we could not see the top of the Mt. Rishiri Fuji. We passed by Oshidomari town and visited the pond Himenuma. The pond was very beautiful, but there were a lot of clouds and we could not see the top of the Mt.Rishiri Fuji. There was a trail around the pond and walked.

The scenery looked like the lake Shiretoko five lakes. It was 2:30 pm and we returned a rent-a-car. When we dropped in the rent-a-car office, the company's person approached us and he took us the Kitaguni cottage where we would stay. I checked in the cottage and then I was very surprised to see the large size of the garden in front of the cottage. This cottage looked like another country's one.

There were many flowers full blooming. As we were tired, we took a nap for one hour and took a walk near the cottage. I thought that it took a lot of time to be maintained. We had dinner and ate sea-urchin, salmon roe, crab, bearded clam, shrimp and sashimi soy and so on. There were three different sea urchins and miso soap with fish and potato harvested today. We enjoyed dinner very much. After dinner, there were fire works of Rishiri town from 8 pm. The house manager took us the top of the hotel Kitaguni and we saw the fire works. We saw very strange fire works, because it was dense fogs above the Rishiri Harbor and we could see only half of fire works and other half of them were in fogs. This was the first time to see it.

After the fire works, we drank Naiagara Wine in a room and enjoyed talking about this travel.

Aug. 7th (Tues.)

We got up at six o'clock in the morning and were relaxed in the garden. I talked with the house manager in the garden for thirty minutes and he took us to the hotel Kitaguni and ate breakfast there. It was a fine day, but even though we could not see the top of the Mt.Rishiri Fuji. We ate breakfast at the top of the floor of Kitaguni Hotel and it was a biking style. After breakfast, we took a walk to the Kitaguni cottage. It took five minutes.

I was walking in a garden and I found it was like a golf country club and we heard that it has 10000 tsubo. We were relaxed in this cottage until 10 o’clock and then we left here for the ferry terminal. Before leaving here, we received an address of the house manager's home during the winter season namely Kushiro.

We took the ferry boat at 11:00 o'clock and it was much more crowed than we came from Wakkanai. It took 1 hour and 50 minutes.

After we got off the airplane, we realized that Tokyo was very hot and high humid. There was more than 10 degree Celsius difference and we returned our home.

I enjoyed traveling Hokkaido very much and was relaxed. We had a good memory.
