August October

September 30th (Tue.)

I attended the Japan Society of Polymer Processing (JSPP) executive committee meeting in the afternoon. As I was busy, I intended not to attend the meeting. But the president asked me to attend and decide the member of future planning for JSPP.

I also joined in a drinking party without any alcohol even though I was busy and tired. I talked with many people and discussed many matters with executive committee member, so I felt like drinking alcohol.

September 28th (Sun.)

As I got tired, I slept in the morning and then wrote a report of this business trip.

September 27th (Sat.)

I arrived at Narita airport one hour delayed. My wife sent me e-mail that she arrived at the airport and was waiting at a bus terminal. So when I picked up my luggage, I made a phone call to her and we took a JAL hotel shuttle bus. We arrived at the hotel and picked up my car and then returned to my home.

September 26th (Fri.)

Today was the leaving day. I packed my luggage and asked a taxi and then left the hotel.

I took ICE bound for Frankfurt airport. It was very crowded, but I tried to find some vacant seats and found them in another car. We had more than two hours before the departure when we arrived at the airport, but it took a lot of time to check in our luggage. Frankfurt airport is always crowded and it takes a lot of time to check in.

At the airport, I bought three bottles of wines and some boxed of chocolates.

The airplane was delayed about one hour. I took an airplane bound for Narita airport.I could sleep well.

September 25th (Thurs.)

I got up at 3 o’clock in the morning and received a phone call from Japan through my mobile phone. I can receive a phone call from Japan as usual if Japanese people make a phone call to me with the exactly same phone number. So my friend talked with me and asked something to me. I told him that I was staying in Germany and time was 3 o’clock, but he kept speaking as usual. As I waked up, I wrote a report for two hours or so and then slept. When I went down to a dinning room at 8:20 in the morning, it was so crowded that I could not find any vacant table and I asked someone to join a table. I was very surprised that there were many people who stayed at this hotel. After finishing breakfast, all of our members were waiting for me. We worked during daytime and finished at 5:00 o’clock.

After finishing our job, German company’s person took us to a fine restaurant and enjoyed very much. I thought dinner was getting better day by day. We had beer, wine, appetizer, soup and main dishes and coffee.

As I could have fine dinner and finish working with good results, I felt happy and relaxed.

September 24th (Wed.)

I got up early in the morning and went down to the dinning room at 7:00 o’clock and found my colleague and had breakfast with him.

We left the hotel before 9:00 o’clock and began to work at the company. We spent all day working until 17:00 o’clock. As our company’s other member arrived at our hotel, we had dinner with them at the hotel. We enjoyed dinner.

September 23rd (Tue.)

I got up early in the morning and went down to a dinning room of the hotel at 6:40 a.m. and had breakfast. There was nobody in a restaurant. I had bread, ham, sausage, scramble egg, potato and juice. After I enjoyed eating, I began to walk near the hotel. I found the pass winding up to the hill. It seemed to be a castle and I could have a good fine view from the top of the hill. There were chemical plants in the industrial area, many houses and buildings in the downtown area and one tall church. I thought the town was small, but there were many houses around the market place. I dropped in the ICE station and bought two tickets to Frankfurt airport there. I was very surprised that two return tickets were very reasonable compared with one ticket from Frankfurt to here. I continued on walking and I bought a bottle of Port wine and cheese at a cheese shop.

I prepared for some presentation materials at my room and explained to our member during lunch time before leaving the hotel for a company.

One of our member who belongs to our company’s branch office in Germany took us to a company in order to discuss our research. It was easy to access by car. We had a discussion from 13:00 o’clock to 16:30 o’clock. We had a fruitful discussion there.

After the meeting, we decided to go to the Koln Cathedral which is very famous all over the world. I went there one year ago, but one of the colleagues had never been there. Stained glasses in the church were very beautiful. It was a rainy day and we had a short tour and then had dinner near the cathedral which was much better than salty dinner last night. We returned to the hotel and I felt tired.

September 22nd (Mon.)

My wife and I left for Narita airport early in the morning by JAL Hotel shuttle bus. After I checked in my luggage, my wife left Narita airport and took Narita express bound for Yokohama. I was waiting for my colleagues at the airport. About two hours before leaving time we met and then went to the gate. I went to the lounge and ate noodle, bread and cheese and drank a couple glasses of whisky and enjoyed drinking and eating. It took about 11 hours from Narita to Frankfurt. All I could do in an airplane was eating, drinking and sleeping. Fortunately I could sleep for more than six hours in a plane and arrived at Frankfurt airport. Then my colleagues and I took ICE (Inter City Express) at the airport and found that there were many people standing. It was so crowed that we could not find any vacant seats. As one of the colleagues found some vacant seats, we could take seats. Fifteen minutes ride took us to the destination and then got out of the train. We took a taxi and we safely reached a hotel near the station. The town seemed to be not big, so I decided to take a walk near the downtown. At the end of September it was hot in Japan, but it was cold in Germany and I wore sweater and jacket I am always interested in taking a walk in a town of foreign country, because it gives me a quite different atmosphere and makes me enjoyable.

One hour after we arrived at a hotel, we went to a restaurant for dinner. We asked the hotel front to introduce a good German restaurant. We walked to the German restaurant which the hotel front introduced us. We easily found the restaurant and it was a big restaurant. We were introduced into one of the large tables. There were few guests and we ordered some glasses of beer, bowls of soups and German foods. Beer tasted good, but we realized that every food and soup was very salty. It was bad taste and we could not enjoy except beer. After we returned to Japan, one of the colleagues named us “Salty Friends”. As we were very tired, we went to bed soon.

September 21st (Sun.)

My wife and I left our home for Narita and then went to Narita JAL Hotel. I planned to leave for Germany the next day. When I went on an overseas trip, I used to park my car near the Narita airport. I paid about 8000 yen for parking. But my wife found that most of the hotels near Narita airport offer us a reasonable hotel price and what’s more free parking for two weeks. So we decided to stay at a hotel.

As my wife also stayed at the hotel with me, we ate dinner at a Japanese restaurant on the top of the floor and then dropped in a public bar and drank two glasses of whisky without any payment. We could see Narita airport lighted up at night. We had a good memory.

September 5th (Fri.)

I have a cooperative research laboratory between our company and Kanazawa University. Once a year our laboratory arranges a symposium which opens our laboratory’s activities and research presentations in public. There were eight papers presented by Dr. course students and just graduated from PhD course this year. The symposium was held from 9 o’clock to 16 o’clock. I opened the symposium and then it began. There were about forty people attended. After the symposium, we ate dinner near Kanazawa Station and then took a bus to Komatsu Airport.

September 4th (Thurs.)

I had Project Meeting of our laboratory from 10 o’clock to 17 o’clock at Kanazawa University as usual and then we had a drinking party after the meeting. There were twenty people gathered near Kanazawa Station and our students talked each other.
