Travel to the Big Island

Part W

Aug.30th (Tue.)

As I went to bed early time the last night, I awaked 4:30 am in the morning and was sitting outside. It was dark and cloudy, so I could only see lights in Hilo town. It was getting lighter at 6;00 am o'clock. We checked out and left the hotel at 9:30 am and passed through the Volcano National Park at 10:15 am.

The first stop was Punaluu black sand beach about more than one hour from Hilo town. The beach is filled with black sand whose color is really black, maybe made of lava. There were many Japanese people who came by a sightseeing bus. We ate Omusubi on the rock near the ocean.

We visited Puuhouna O Honaunau National Historical Park near the ocean, literally English name "Place of Refuge". It was really hot and in the beach there were many people swimming. We took a walk for 15 minutes in the historical park.

After that, we directly went to Kona where we would stay. We passed south Kona. I thought the condominium is located south Kona, but I could not find the Kamehameha V street. We arrived at North Kona District, so I had already passed through the condominium. We returned the same road which we passed. We checked a map again and we realized the Kamehameha V street located in North Kona and finally we reached the shopping center near the condominium at 2:00 pm.

It was very big shopping mall and easy access to the condominium, namely walking distance from the condominium. I thought that it was too early to check in, because of check in time 3:00 pm. We bought food and beverage.

We finally arrived at the Outrigger Kanaloa at Kona. There was a security person who checked at the entrance and I said my name and he permitted our entrance. At office we checked in and got a key of room 2301. The room including living room, kitchen, bedroom, bathroom and veranda was very clean and big. It was located just in the ocean front and near the swimming pool. We wore swimming pant and T-shirt in order to go to the swimming pool.

There were two other couples other than our group. Today was very hot, so I felt very comfortable. We ate Tekkamaki, Inari-sushi, miso soup, salad and melon with beer in the veranda hearing wave sound. After dinner, we took a walk in the Outrigger Kanaloa at Kona. It has many condominiums and also a golf course. The location is very good. The poolside is changed into a restaurant from 6:00 pm.
On TV, there was a big hurricane Katrina in New Orleans of Louisiana and many towns along Mississippi river and many houses were overflowed. Still nobody knows how many people died. They will reach to thousands. This is serious hurricane ever before in USA. All the TV broadcasted this hurricane Katrina.

I received a phone call from my home in Japan. The phone call which somebody makes from Japan automatically announced my wife's mobile phone all over the world. The second symposium of Kanazawa University organized by corporative research laboratory "Renkei Koza" will be held September 8th and 9th. One of the members was hurt in bone (broken leg) and he was worried if he would be able to join the symposium. So I received a phone call. It was easy to respond the phone call by a mobile phone by which we can make a phone call to all over the world without any interval. Before going to bed, we wanted to eat "Somen" and we ate it. I could not understand why I feel this kind of dishes taste good in the foreign country during trip.
